VOLUNTEERS - HELP WANTED!

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

On May 12th the Society marked National Volunteer Week with a luncheon at the museum for our Roster Volunteers, without whom the museum would not be open to the public. It  was an opportunity to acknowledge them and show our appreciation as well as to share ideas and concerns.

The 32 members who attended enjoyed socialising and hearing about the many innovative changes that have been introduced over the past few months. The relocation of the point of entry to the museum was generally well received and the Committee is working on further improving the layout of this area.

We value the commitment and reliability of our Roster Volunteers but there is an ongoing  need for more people to help them.

If you would like to know more about being on the roster please give me a ring.

OPEN GARDENS

Over the weekend of 10th and 11th January almost 2,000 adults paid to view the Sorrento gardens of Jane Burke and Fiona Brockhoff. Another 1,000 under-eighteens swelled the throng which provided good business for our Refreshment Stall and Heritage Shop. The Society netted $4,000 from the event.

We are indebted to the 35 willing volunteers who spent a total of 300 hours working towards this excellent result. Many thanks to all those who made valuable contributions and particularly to Suzanne Ewart for baking and handcraft and to Anna Alexander who made numerous jars of her famous jam.
